Design Process PracticumThis course puts into practice the foundational design notion of “thinking with your hands” by engaging students in real-world design projects across multiple dimensions. Students will delve deeper into design processes by examining the latest design ideas and methods, and then translate and apply those ideas through the design of several design installations.
As part of designing to make a difference, students will also explore the social impact of design and how to apply socially conscious design principles to spatial design, learning how to integrate form and space to create a unique user experience. During the semester students will primarily work on design, construction, installation and maintenance of the University of Delaware exhibit at the Philadelphia International Flower Show. Following the show, students will use their experience gained in the current show to create conceptual designs for the new theme of the next year’s Philadelphia Flower Show. Following that project, students will engage in a community development design project inspired by the PFS exhibit. The community, project, and ideas will be generated by the students, and thus will vary each semester. |
